Updated: Oct 22, 2019

For the first time since 2014 the Redskins will get to host a first round playoff game against an unknown opponent at the moment in a couple of weeks. The Redskins which trailed 28-17 at one point early 4th quarter stormed back and forced overtime. Anniston started off the game with a 93 yard kick return for a touchdown to go out in front 7-0. Redskins didn't waste much time as they drove down the field to tie the game 7-7 with Brody Pinyan connecting with fellow Senior Andrew McAlpine on a 22 yard touchdown pass. Anniston's next drive would go just 6 plays before having to punt back to Oneonta but was blocked by Senior David Hall.

After a couple of scoreless drives Anniston would again have special team issues as the snap on a punt would get behind #3 Brown and be down at the Bulldogs 2 yard line. Oneonta would need just 1 run from David Hall to give the Redskins a 14-7 lead with 12 seconds left in the first quarter. Oneonta's ensuing kickoff back to Anniston would be recovered by Sophomore Collin Moon. Oneonta's Erik Vargas would miss a 41 yard field goal attempt.

Anniston in the 2nd quarter would get 14 unanswered points in just a 2 minute stretch. Going into halftime Junior Beau Ragsdale had 12 tackles.

Oneonta's first drive of the second half would go 10 plays ending in a 35 yard field make by Erik Vargas to make it 21-17 Anniston. Oneonta's ensuing kickoff back to Anniston would be recovered by Sophomore Wil Robertson on the Anniston 30 yard line. Oneonta would not be able to take advantage of this great field position going for it on 4th down but Braden Moore would take a loss on his run.

It would be until the 4th quarter before either team would get back on the scoreboard. Anniston's #3 Brown would go the house on a 67 yard touchdown run to extend the Bulldog lead to 28-17. Very next drive for the Redskins found them very quickly at the Anniston 10 yard line as Braden Moore connected with Andrew McAlpine on a 39 yard diving catch. Redskins offense would stall again and they would have to settle with a 27 yard field goal from Vargas.

Both offenses would stall again for a couple of drives until there were just :58 seconds left in the game that #7 would fumble the ball at their 22 yard line. After 2 incomplete passes for Moore he once again found Senior Andrew McAlpine at the Anniston 3 yard line as McAlpine did the rest of the work getting into the endzone. With Oneonta being down 2 points still, Head Coach Phil Phillips had to go for the two point conversion. Braden Moore would roll out to his right and pump fake the defense to buy some time and then found Junior Eli Buse wide open in the back of the endzone to tie it at 28 all with 41 seconds left.

Anniston did not want to go to overtime as #7 Duke would take a couple of shots deep against the Oneonta defense. On 3rd and 15 Wil Robertson would step in front a pass for the interception and return it to the 34 yard line with 14 seconds left. They would line up for a 44 yard field attempt to win the game but a delay of game ruined the chance for the Skins to win in overtime.

In overtime Anniston would get first crack as the Redskins won the toss and elected to go on defense first. #3 Brown wasted no time getting into the endzone on the very first play from 10 yards out. The extra point snap was bobbled by the holder who had to improvise and roll out and would find someone wide open but that wide open player was an offensive lineman who could not hold onto the pass.

On Oneonta's first possession of overtime David Hall would not be denied. He would take the first carry for 6 yards getting to the 4 yard line and his second run took him into the endzone to tie the game at 34. With a chance to be the hero Senior Erik Vargas nailed the extra point to give the Redskins their 6th win in region play this year and secure a first round home game against either Fayette County or Good Hope who play this upcoming Friday night.

David Hall would have 24 carries for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Andrew McAlpine had 5 catches for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. Braden Moore would go 6/18 passing for 94 yards and 1 touchdown. Beau Ragsdale tallied 16 tackles. Luke Hodge, Eli Buse and David Hall all picked up 8 tackles a piece. Wil Robertson had 4 tackles and an interception along with Riley McGill getting an interception.

Oneonta will play host to White Plains who comes in this Friday night.
