One game was a 1 point victory while the other was a 37 point difference. It was a night filled with great games and exciting dunks for the Redskins. In Varsity Girls action Oneonta went ahead with 2.1 seconds with Freshman Baylor Phillips 2 free throws to give the Redskins a 50-49 victory. Locust Fork lead for 90% of this game as they jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead to begin the game which was answered by Oneonta's own 10-0 run. After that Locust Fork would continue to lead until middle of the 4th quarter when Baylor Phillips and Britney Chavez would begin to get hot from deep. Baylor Phillips would end up with 14 points 2 rebounds and an assist while Chavez would pick up 11 points 4 rebounds and 2 assist. The Redskins would take the lead late only to squander it once again as Locust Fork would continue their 3 point barrage. With less than 15 seconds and a 1 point Redskin lead Shelly Bailey of Locust Fork would take the dribble away from Phillips and go in with an easy layup to take the 49-48 lead. After the timeout Baylor Phillips would go coast to coast with the ball with a crucial pick set near halfcourt by senior Jordan Smith (6 points 4 rebounds) that would allow her to drive to the bucket. Baylor would be fouled and would go to the line to put the Redskins ahead. The win for Oneonta puts this above .500 here early on in the season. They will travel to Susan Moore this Friday to take on the Lady Bulldogs for the only matchup this season.
As for the Varsity Boys it was their first game of the season and they didn't hold back winning 65-28 over the Hornets led by Eric Moore's 22 points 5 rebounds and 2 assist. The Redskins had more 3 pointers made than turnovers on the night (8 3s to 7 TO). They jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter and did not look back. Seniors Daniel McCary, Deondre Elliott, Eric Moore would combine for 10 steals total on the night. The Redskin defense was tough all night long. As for scoring there was plenty of it from your 4 seniors combining to score 52 of the 65 total points. Oneonta would get good bench play as guys like Dallas Jennings would pick up 5 points, Riley McGill and Harrison Miller would both pick up a 3 pointer. Coach Brandon Crews was pleased with his team's effort as they now will gear up for the first road game of the year Friday night against Susan Moore.
